WHAT IS WADA?

WADA is a FORUM for adult dyslexics for social, rather than educational purposes

WESSEX is an area across southern England, UK, encompassing several counties (a significant portion of the UK)

ADULT DYSLEXICS are the dyslexics who have moved on beyond the influence of the STATE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

ASSOCIATION (per Thesaurus can mean) Friendship, Relationship, Connection, Involvement, Fellowship, Link.

This WADA is not the World Anti-Doping Agency, so apologies to them.

People who are not dyslexic do not understand it and are generally confused by it. They only have the words of teachers and the medical experts and so are inevitably misinformed.

The only time when two people talking about dyslexia truly understand each other is when they are both dyslexic.

So we have created WADA which is a FORUM type Social Club where everyone is dyslexic.

An environment where:-

nobody is judging you or wanting to educate you;

everyone is sympathetic without being patronising;

everyone is empathetic and truly wants to understand and help you with your shared burden;

you can laugh at being dyslexic and bring some joy to the depressing state of being dyslexic;

your genius will flourish regardless of your lack of knowledge and academic qualifications.

An environment in which Albert Einstein's words of wisdom are truly understood.

A different world from the one you endure on a day-to-day basis.

The WADA SOCIAL CLUB world...........ENJOY.

WHY IS WADA?

WADA is a unique website, designed and managed entirely by dyslexic people (mainly me, Nick (Weymouth))

NATIONAL DYSLEXIA ORGANISATIONS are generally managed by NON-DYSLEXIC people and are focused on the education of children to fit into the mould of the NATIONAL CURRICULUM per the crushing of the lumps of flour through the sieve

MADE BY DYSLEXIA is a relatively new development and has many commendable features (including our favourite actress). Hence, not wishing to be negative, I suspect the Management does not include many dyslexics. The website has too many "bells and whistles" including advertising which only leads to distractions. The sponsorship by Microsoft must surely be to promote its future plans for online education. Besides which, adult dyslexics are generally not impressed by those that have "made it" when they have not.

EILEEN HARWOOD who has run the LONDON ADULT DYSLEXIA SUPPORT GROUP for many years is the only example, to our knowledge, where a dyslexic person is genuinely trying to help dyslexics' social needs without trying to educate them with reference to the NATIONAL CURRICULUM.

YOUR INPUT on this subject would be most welcome. The biggest problem facing people with dyslexia is the conundrum that virtually all the literature on the subject of dyslexia has been produced by NON-DYSLEXIC people.

SIR KEN ROBINSON was the notable exception to this with respect to education. While he made no reference to dyslexia, his analysis of the effectiveness of the traditional educational methodology was amazingly accurate. His humorous presentation techniques in his TED talks were especially beneficial to dyslexic people who find concentration on verbal or written topics most difficult.

HOW IS WADA

The WADA website is currently under construction, so if you find it has changed since you last looked, fear not, it is not your memory playing tricks.

The DESIGN of the WADA website is simple for easy reading

No BELLS or WHISTLES (distractions)

No ADVERTS (distractions)

No LINKS to other subjects (dyslexic people can quickly lose their way)

No ACRONYMS without explanations (worse than words)

FONT size (20), colour(Yellow), Style(Comic Sans MS)

UPPER CASE HEADINGS and KEY WORDS

BACKGROUND dark grey moving(?) clouds

GENDER NEUTRAL for easy of reading we use "he" instead of "he/she"

Your FEEDBACK would be most welcome. The idea of the WADA FORUM is to publish real stories by dyslexic people which help illustrate what dyslexia actually is. Also, if anyone is interested in forming catch-up meetings in their area, in a pub or somewhere, we can advertise it here to help get it going.
